Wen ZSA? Not scheduled.

Zcash Shielded Assets would let anyone issue tokens inside Zcash’s shielded pool. They are not part of NU7, the next network upgrade, and no upgrade includes them yet.

Here is where the work stands. We re-read the sources every week and log what changed. We don’t guess dates.

  1. ZSA on mainnet

    Not scheduled

    Left out of NU7, the next network upgrade, and not in any later one yet. So there is no activation date.

  2. ZIP 227 · Issuance

    Draft

    The spec for creating ZSAs. Still a draft; its deployment section reads “TBD”.

  4. ZSA circuit

    In review

    The proving circuit is an open pull request to the Orchard library, waiting for review. It is not merged.

  5. Zebra node support

    No date

    No milestone and no date. Zebra’s ZIP 226 and ZIP 227 issues came off the NU7 milestone in late September.

  6. Transaction format

    Draft

    ZSAs need a new transaction format. A draft extensible format (ZIP 248) leaves room for them; no upgrade is assigned to it.

On the calendar

  1. NU7 on testnet

    Live

    Activated on the public testnet at block 4,465,026, which gives the teams time on a live network before mainnet.

  2. NU7 mainnet height

    Set

    Set in ZIP 259: NU7 activates on mainnet at block 3,543,405. Zebra 7.0.0, released on 22 October, follows it.

  3. Zcon7, Cancún

    Planned

    The program has a debate on 28 October: “Do You Support ZSAs?”

  4. Zcash turns 10

    Anniversary

    The mainnet genesis block is dated 28 October 2016.

  5. NU7 on mainnet

    Target

    At block 3,543,405: 25-second blocks and the end of v4 transactions, among other changes. No new transaction format, so no ZSAs.
